چکیده

Background and Objectives The canal wall down mastoidectomy brings changes in the anatomy of external auditory (EAC), causing potential problems, such as accumulated crust, vertigo attacks, difficulties wearing hearing aids (HAs). objective this study is to evaluate safety efficacy mastoidoplasty using demineralized bone matrix (DBM) obliterate mastoidectomized cavity reconstruct EAC.Subjects Method Medical records patients with chronic otitis media or without cholesteatoma who received DBM by a single surgeon at Seoul St. Mary’s hospital between 2014 2021 were reviewed retrospectively. Results A total 27 included study. None showed any recurrence problem, wound infection, other complications during their followup period 13.07±37 months. average air conduction level pure tone audiometry no significant change after surgery (<i>p</i>=0.50, <i>p</i>=0.54, respectively). Five indicated for rehabilitation could adopt type HAs surgery; six used completely-in-the HAs, one patient in-the-canal HAs. complained acoustic feedback problem HAs.Conclusion Mastoidoplasty seems be very safe effective surgical procedure that shows functionally acceptable EAC demonstrates specific complication.

Repair of Temporal Bone Encephalocele following Canal Wall Down Mastoidectomy

We report a rare case of a temporal bone encephalocele after a canal wall down mastoidectomy performed to treat chronic otitis media with cholesteatoma. The patient was treated successfully via an intracranial approach. An enhanced layer-by-layer repair of the encephalocele and skull base deficit was achieved from intradurally to extradurally, using temporalis fascia, nasal septum cartilage, an...

Chronic otitis media (COM) is completely treated with a single procedure in most patients but may require multiple surgeries in some cases. The main goals of open cavity mastoidectomy are to completely eradicate the disease, create a large enough meatus for examination and mastoid air cells, and provide a self-cleaning epithelized dry cavity, and achieve maximum hearing. In this report, we pres...
